“I was blown away by the breathtaking view with the snowy mountain ranges, fading into the distance. The pristine, rugged terrain was etched in my mind through the hike.“

I began to hike from the base at Castle Village. Waded through knee-high grasses and reached the track. The jaggy track was so steep as I found myself panting through the whole way up and My legs almost cramped at several points. I would’ve given up on reaching the peak if my friend hadn’t been there, setting the pace, urging me on so we could reach the top in time. It was tough keeping up with him but he encouraged me to keep walking, even if slowly.

At some points, I started to feel like,” I might actually make it”
When I finally stood at the summit, I completely overwhelmed. But the view there far exceeded my expectations. The Southern Alps stretched out into the horizon, offering a spectacular view you truly have to see with your own eyes. I was even able to catch a glimpse of the peak of Mt Cook.

I felt my energy recover for the descent as I gaze out over the landscape. Immersing myself in nature was purely enjoyable. I was proud of myself for making it without throwing in the towel along the way.
On the way back, a rough and steep track covered in gravel was slippery so I walked down carefully, but still ended up taking a few tumbles. This time, I could savour the terrain as the return felt much easier.

This was my first time climbing a mountain over 2,000 meters. I will never forget the sense of achievement and the incredible scenery!
