When my mum came to visit me in Perth, we decided to join a tour to the Pinnacles Desert.
I’d never seen anything quite like the Pinnacles before. There were hundreds of strange limestone formations sticking out of the ground, almost like giant needles.
To be honest, I found them more fascinating than beautiful. I kept wondering how on earth these unusual rocks had formed.

Stargazing at the Pinnacles
After sunset, it gradually got darker and a few stars began to appear.
Thick clouds had covered the sky earlier, so I wasn’t expecting to see much. But luckily, the clouds cleared and the sky was absolutely full of stars!
It was gorgeous.
Our guide had brought a telescope, and we even got to see Saturn through it. I’d never expected to see Saturn that clearly, so that was pretty exciting.
We spent a couple of hours looking at the night sky. It was windy and absolutely freezing, but I really enjoyed it.

Trying to Understand the Tour Guide
Our guide explained how the Pinnacles had formed and pointed out the stars we could see.
There was just one problem.
Neither my mum nor I could understand much of what he was saying!
He spoke incredibly quickly, and his Australian accent was really strong. I tried to follow along, but I could barely keep up.
So while everyone else was listening to the explanations, we were mostly just enjoying the views.
It was freezing cold, and I could barely understand what the guide was saying, but I really enjoyed the tour!
