About Me

Hi, I’m Kappon.

I’m from Japan, and I write about places I’ve visited, both here in Japan and overseas.

Before I started travelling, I worked in local government for six years. Eventually, I decided I wanted to experience life somewhere completely different, so I left my job and headed to Australia on a working holiday.

I later spent time living in New Zealand, where I got into hiking and enjoyed exploring the mountains with friends.

Since returning to Japan, I’ve continued travelling and exploring different parts of the country. I’ve also worked in hotels in various places, which has given me the chance to spend time in destinations rather than just visit them for a day or two.

Why I Started This Blog

I started this blog to share my travel experiences, photographs and honest thoughts about the places I’ve visited.

I enjoy visiting famous sights, but I’m just as interested in the places that mean something to the people who live there. It might be a particular view, a quiet street or somewhere that wouldn’t normally make it onto a tourist itinerary.

I want to find out what local people value about the places they call home, and I’d love to see those places for myself.

When I travel overseas, I also like discovering things that feel different from what I’m used to in Japan. Sometimes it’s the scenery, sometimes it’s the way people live, and sometimes it’s something quite ordinary that catches my attention.

Through this blog, I want to share how I see and enjoy these places as someone from Japan, including the things that surprise me, interest me or simply make me want to explore a little further.

Everything I write comes from my own experiences. I hope my perspective gives readers another way of looking at a place, whether they’re planning a trip or just curious about somewhere they’ve never been.

What You’ll Find Here

Most of my articles are about travelling in Japan, including places I’ve explored while living and working in different parts of the country.

I also write about my experiences overseas, particularly in Australia and New Zealand, as well as hiking trails I’ve walked.

Everything is based on places I’ve actually visited. I try to include practical information where I can, but I also want to be clear about what’s simply my own experience or opinion.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you find something useful for your next trip.
