The Sydney Opera House is one of Australia’s most famous landmarks, and its unusual architecture was one of the reasons I wanted to visit it.
What caught my attention most was the shape of the building. Its roof looks like several giant shells overlapping one another, and its appearance changes depending on where you stand.
I enjoyed walking around and looking at the Opera House from different angles. It looks quite different from the front, the side and the water.
If you enjoy photography, it’s worth having a wander around rather than taking a photo from just one spot.
The Opera House at Night
Something I hadn’t realised before visiting was that there were bars along the waterfront near the Opera House.
In the evening, I saw locals enjoying drinks there, with the Opera House right in front of them.
The building was beautifully illuminated at night, too.
I enjoyed walking around and taking in the atmosphere.
A Souvenir Shop Beneath the Stairs
Did you know there’s a souvenir shop beneath the main stairs of the Opera House?
I went inside and ended up buying a hat.
There were also displays on the walls explaining the ideas behind the building and how it was constructed.
I found these quite interesting. They gave me a better understanding of the thought and effort that went into creating such an unusual building.
If you’re visiting Sydney, I’d recommend taking some time to walk around the Opera House and see it from different angles. And if you have the chance, it’s worth coming back in the evening to see it illuminated.
