Lake Tekapo : The Ultimate Spot for Stargazing & Scenery

As you probably know, Lake Tekapo is renowned as one of the best places to stargaze in the world, sitting in the heart of south island. It takes for two hours and half to get here from Christchurch by car. That pulls in star-gazers from all over the world. I was one of them. Around the lake, The light pollution is strictly controlled to ensure the dark enough to make the all stars as bright as possible.

While most people associate with its dreamy nighttime views when it comes to Lake Tekapo, it is also just as stunning during both the day and afternoon.

In the daylight, the lake sparkles in purely deep blue by reflecting the sunlight , Mt.cook stands tall in the background, which is a mesmerising view.

After the sunset, the scenery shifts. the sky displays this blend of a mix of sort pink and light green, that creates a calm different vibe. I was impressed!

I found the Church of the Good Shepherd perfectly positioned to stand out, making it an iconic landmark. It’s no wonder that it’s so famous. Thanks to its stunning location, people from all over the world come over to capture breathtaking shots of the Milky Way above the church.

With a high chance of clear skies here, so you are guaranteed to be able to enjoy the beauty. It was the first time for me to see the Milky Way in my entire life and countless stars were absolutely speechless. I successfully ticked off one of my bucket list items.

I have to say this, you are allowed to swim in a designated area so might as well dive in. You could feel a sense of spiritual energy afterwards. Tekapo isn’t just about the stars, it’s a place that surprises you at any time of day. You’ve got to see it with your own eyes!
