Any true fan of “The Lord of the Rings” would be thrilled to see this landscape with their own eyes. It is beautifully written in the films. But this is a spot you don’t want to miss even if you are a fan of the films or not. This spectacular landscape, shaped by rugged and barren mountain ranges will take your breath away.

As a huge fan of LORT, I had to set foot in Edoras. I was stoked. I’d dreamed of visiting this place I’d seen so many times in the films. The landscape I knew from the film was there. The same view the daughter of the king, Eowyn, looks out over. It is situated in a large mountain valley, literally encircled by towering snowy-mountains. The scenery is breathtaking from every single angle. It looks as though the gods chose to leave only the hill behind and let glaciers erase everything else over time.
When I stood there, It truly felt as though I’d stepped into the story and I could picture the Fellowship galloping across the plains. Scenes of Edoras played vividly in my mind.

Access
From Christchurch, it’s about a two-and-a-half-hour drive west along quiet country roads. You’ll pass a few stunning lakes along the way.
One highlight is the drive past Lake Clearwater and Lake Camp. Both are incredibly beautiful. I highly recommend pulling over and taking a moment to enjoy the view.
