It takes roughly an hour and a half to get from Lake Tekapo to the base of Mt.Cook.
The view of the mountain is simply stunning and it will never fail to capture your attention. It is truly an eye-opener. In this post, I am excited to share some of Mt.Cook’s majesty through the photos I snapped on “Hooker Valley Track“.
I was amazed at how beautiful the pristine nature is here. As you are on the trail, it feels as though Mt.Cook stands right in front of you because of its massive scale. The mountain shows a different face when you are around the Lake versus when you are at its base .

The track is well-maintained with a gentle slope all the way, making it easy to keep pace. The further you trek, the more impressive the mountain appears. With every step closer to the mountain, the changing scenery fuels your motivation. Along the way, You will cross three little bridges, adding to a bit of a spice to the experience.

At the end of the track, you are rewarded with an incredible sight of Mt.Cook, beautifully set against a glacier lake. I love the contrast between the mountain’s snow-white peak and its earthy tone.
I saw a guy wading into the lake, but you don’t try that. The water was freezing cold. As soon as I dipped my legs in, they began to feel sore. So take care.
There are a few hiking trails available, each offering its own uniquely stunning view. Choose the trail that suits you best and enjoy every second of the adventure!
