Arrowtown in Autumn: A Fairytale Town Wrapped in Golden Leaves

NEW ZEALAND

On this trip, I visited Wānaka, Queenstown, Kingston, and Milford Sound, but the place that impressed me the most was Arrowtown. It was early April. The town was covered in beautiful autumn colors, with golden trees on the hills and along the streets. The view from the lookout was so lovely—it felt like something out of a storybook.

The origin of the name “Arrowtown” isn’t clear, but the town still has old buildings and rest areas from the gold rush days. Walking through the town, you can really feel its history. The main street is very charming, and every corner looks like it could be a postcard. The mix of old architecture and colourful leaves made the whole experience feel special.

Next to the town is a beautiful river flowing through the yellow trees and mountains. It was the most stunning river view I’ve ever seen. It’s also a filming location from The Lord of the Rings. It’s the scene where Arwen escapes from the Nazgûl with Frodo on horseback. It’s a must-visit spot for fans of the series.

Arrowtown is about 30 minutes from Queenstown and around an hour from Wānaka. The town gets lively in autumn, especially during its seasonal festival. If you’re planning to visit, this is the perfect time to enjoy the colourful and vibrant atmosphere.
