Have you ever heard of Unazuki in Toyama?
If you are searching for interesting tourist spots other than the popular cities, like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto,,,, Unazuki could be an option. It’s nestled way up in the mountains and allows you to fully recharge your batteries by providing the beauty of the surroundings and hot-spring. Unazuki is renowned for the quality of its hot-spring, which makes your skin smooth and sleek.
I lived in Unazuki for three months. I hope this gives you some food for thoughts and add Unazuki on your itinerary.
Hang out in The Kurobe River

The Kurobe River is one of the cleanest rivers in Japan. It is beautiful, sparking in emerald green. There is a way down to the river going along the stairs of waterfall. Just let your leg in it and you look around, feeling nature and how cool and pure it is. It seems as if you were back in childhood. You are going to have a great relaxed time.
Chill out with a coffee at Cafe Mozart

The very friendly owner, who traveled several European countries, runs this cafe. The inside is charming, with these portraits on the walls and the chair that is said to make your dreams come true. Many tourists have visited here. Enjoy having a chat with the owner and drinking a delicious coffee while listening to the sound of music from Mozart!
Put your legs in a foot bath : “Ashiyu”

On the way to Unazuki, you must be tired by sitting on train for one hour and a half. A foot bath called “Ashiyu”, is perfect for you. there is kind of bathtub filled with hot-spring lower than knee. Just give a go. Put your legs in it and take it easy. It is one of my favourite time to relax. I like to drink while enjoying Ashiyu.
Ride on the Torroko

The Torokko presents you a great nature experience, passing along the beautiful Kurobe River through the green mountains. Picture this: the view of emerald green lakes and the River sparkling. there is sweeping mountains right in front of you, which is so fascinating. Breathe in the fresh mountain air and purify yourself on the Torokko. You don’t want to miss it.
Note:It runs only the halfway because of the damage the great earthquake struck the Hokuriku area on New Year’s Day. Considering the safety concerns, the full route is not open, but an-hour-and-a-half round trip still offers an amazing opportunity to appreciate nature.
Stay at a traditional Japanese style inn: Sanyanagitei

This is one of the excellent Ryokans with warm welcoming hospitality from “Okami”,”Wakaokami” and other staff, and mouth-watering full-course meals for dinner. The homely clean guest rooms remodelled recently with new tatami floor will absolutely help you wind down. The head chef prepares “kaiseki-ryori” presented beautifully, just enjoy savouring the variety of dishes.
I worked at this Ryokan for three months so I can totally recommend staying here
Honestly, Unazuki may not be a place to live, but it’s a perfect place to sightsee and chill out for a few days. There are abundant elements to help you relax. You will be unplugging from the busy modern world.
