Are you looking for a fun place that links with biking, the serene beach and a sense of your childhood?
If so, Battle Lake Park in Christchurch might be perfect destination for you. With its unique attractions, from a quirky fairy village to the Waimairi Beach, this park offers something special for you. I’d like to share my little adventure here. It was a short but pleasant trip.
In the park, first thing that I stumble upon was the pleasant fairy village.
It offers a charming experience to visit a hundred of tiny adorable fairy houses, attached to the trees. Some small doors say “Welcome Fairies”. It is lovely!
It seems the fairy village has grown over time. During the Covid-19 lockdowns, people were confined to their homes, so had to figure out something to overcome the boredom and come up with activities to pass the time with their kids. One day, this family put it on the trees, and this was how the fairy village was born.
I planned to head to the beach, cycling through the forest. However, at some point, a gate leading to the beach was closed, which I had to make a detour. I didn’t really check the route to the beach so cycled based on my hunch and a sense of direction.
After cycling over a little hill, the beach finally came into sight.
The bike track along the coast was an amazing feature.
The Waimairi Beach is shallow, allowing you to wade in quite far before it gets deep. I loved that sweeping hill, creating a picturesque landscape. There were only a few locals around, enjoying strolling with their dogs. The beach was serene. From my view, It appeared to be a hidden jam for relaxing.
On this particular day, strong winds made cycling back home demanding. I couldn’t help but retreat into the forest again to avoid the headwind.
Battle Lake Park turned out to be a fantastic way to spend a few hours on my day off. You’re drawn to outdoor adventures or simply a quiet moment by the beach. This park has it all. It’s a great place to recharge and connect with nature. Don’t miss it if you’re ever in Christchurch.
