今回は、ミニマリストとは何かについて話しているときに学んだフレーズをご紹介します。
「必要なものだけを残し、あとは取り除く、捨てる」 ということを言いたいとき、
あなたなら、どのように表現しますか？
get rid of something, throw something away/out, chuck something away ,,,,,
「ものを除く、捨てる」の言い方はいろいろありますが、今回はこれ
stripped down（形）
動詞 strip にも 「〜から〜を省く、取り去る」の意味があります。
Something that is stripped down has been reduced to its simplest form:
「不要なものを減らしていきシンプルな状態にする」ということ。

K: I threw a lot of things away because I didn’t think they were important in my life. I’ve decided to live only with something that I think it is really important.
H: You mean your life is stripped down to its raw essence. What is important for you. What is important in your life, What has value? You will strip everything else away so you’ll strip down to this kind of essence of what it is to be you.
では、逆に「モノを溜めこむ」ことを表現したい時は？
なかなか簡単そうで言えないですよね
動詞 hoard を使いましょう。
これは、「部屋にたくさんのものを溜めこみ、手放さない」という意味で
ゴミ屋敷に住んでいる人や、溜め込む癖がある人のことを
People that hoard things または They like to hoard things
というのだとか。
H: People that hoard things. They need to keep everything in their flat, in their life that they’ve ever bought. They can’t get rid of it.
