Discover Mandurah’s Giant Sculptures: A Sustainable Adventure

AUSTRALIA
Capturing one of giants

When I was in Perth, I heard that there were “Giants” wandering around in Mandurah! Not just one or two,,, but six in total! My curiosity kicked in so that I couldn’t resist jumping into the quest to discover them.
After a few adventures, I managed to track down the three out of six! They look like something straight out of The Legend of Zelda!

It turns out each Giant is a sustainable sculpture, created from recycled wood. I heard Thomas Dambo, the father of giants, wanted to teach about the importance of recycling, sustainability and imagination.
This can also help boost Mandurah’s popularity and entice more visitors to the town.
Let me briefly introduce these three giants I found!

He is so tall and big that I could climb onto his arm to take a picture. Even his foot appeared about as big as I am. To find him, I had to walk for about an hour and a half from the nearest station, Lakelands. He’s hidden well in the bush.
He was sneering at me,,, as you can tell from his facial expression.

This Giant with the musical instrument was sitting on the edge of the rocks, gazing out over the water. He didn’t seem like he wants to be in the limelight. It is a bit tricky to take a picture with him because of where he is.
He is about half the size of the Giant in case.1
You need to walk for 30~40 minutes to find him from the nearest bus station.

When I met him, He was creating a “Genki Dama”. My energy suddenly got drained and became a part of it.
He was sitting on a hill, looking over the marvellous ocean view. The Sunset from there was majestic. It was worthwhile just for the golden time.
He was friendly enough to let you sit on his laps and take pictures together.
There is a bus that takes you close to this spot.

I wanted to see the other three Giants but you need a car to reach them. They are far away. If you have your own car, there are parking lots near the Giants so it is easy to visit them.
Each Giant is intriguing and worth trying to find them when you visit Mandurah.
Find them all 😉
